This will be Austria’s second appearance at the IFAF Senior World Championship having competed in 2011 as the host country. In 2011, the Austrians defeated Australia 48-10 to earn seventh place. Running back Mario Nerad lead the attack as he tied the record for rushing touchdowns in a game recording three in the Seventh-Place game held in Vienna, Austria. The Austrians will enter the tournament looking to not only fight for gold but to avenge a double-overtime European Championship loss to Germany.

The American Football Bund Österreich was established in 1982 and is comprised of tackle football, flag and cheerleading. Austrian football has five leagues (4 men’s and one women’s): the AFL – Austrian Football League, Div 1, Div 2, Div 3 and Division Lades. The AFL is the top league in Austria and features some of the best club teams in Europe. In 2008, three Austrian teams were ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Europe.
